Business Transformation ensuring greater profitability

Business transformation means a holistic approach to change a business for the better in terms of systems, processes and people. In order to achieve that, it is important to understand the business, the processes that exist within them and the people that run those processes. The metrics also needs to be considered so that the impact of transformation can be measured and acknowledged.

Mphasis follows a four-step methodology to an effective transformation.

  • Need: Business transformation is usually forced by leadership through vision, competition through economic environment and/or by stakeholders through greater profitability. We try to understand what the transformational needs are and where they originate from, which helps us in creating a more effective transformational roadmap.
  • Current State: Once the transformation objectives are understood, the next step is to understand the current state. We understand the current processes, their linkages with other processes and systems, the current hierarchy and structure of the organization, and finally the kind of IT systems that support the organization. We carry out the stakeholder analysis to assess the supporting and opposing forces to the transformation. We assess the currently used metrics using Business Process Management System (BPMS) methodology to assess the current state in a holistic sense.
  • Roadmap: The transformational roadmap is a logical result of the transformation need and the current state. We analyze the gaps between the two using Six Sigma DMAIC / DMADV methodologies and Lean Methodologies. The gaps and the roadmap are then mapped out at an organizational level and at a functional level in terms of process changes, people changes and system changes. We assess the current metrics and recommend new ones for better management of the business. There are assigned owners at multiple levels in the organization with predetermined timelines for the implementation.
  • Execution: This is one of the challenging phases of the transformation that require great management direction and support. To aid this process, periodic dashboards on the implementation progress along with the performance of the various organizational metrics at an organizational and function/user level is published and reviewed with the stakeholders. We take action plans to successfully implement the transformation.
