Life Hacks for enterprising women in IT

Woman is created to multitask. Most women who work outside the home hold down not just one, but two full-time jobs. If employed in the IT industry, they are required to juggle meetings, conference calls, presentations and deadlines along with household chores and family duties. While today’s woman successfully manages to do it all, there are times when it may seem too much, often at the cost of her health. What women need are new ways to find balance in their lives, where career aspirations and family obligations are equally satisfied, without their wellness being sacrificed.

Here are five life hacks that can help women restore balance to their stressed and overburdened routine -

1.   Drop Perfection

Women today often fall prey to the "Superwoman Syndrome," where they think they must be perfect wives and mothers, excel at work, have a beautiful home and at the same time, look great. Perfection is an impossible ideal and if constantly pursued, can lead to failure. Hence, they should instead settle to do their best.

2.   Prioritize

There are only 24 hours in a day, and they should understand they can't do everything. So, it is always good to find out what's important, and then drop the rest. They should spend less time on the things that matter less in the long run. And if they feel overwhelmed, they must remind themselves that while they can’t do it all, they can do what’s important.

3.   Simplify

We often continue to do things just the way our parents did, ignoring the fact that they probably lived a far more leisurely lifestyle than we do. Hence, there is a need to find quicker and simpler ways of carrying out our daily routines. For instance, they should find recipes that are easier to make, entertain with a "bring a dish" party, buy clothes and shoes that their children can put on by themselves, and decorate the home with fewer artifacts so that there is less to dust. Little time spent on planning can buy them more time to relax.

4.   Ask for and Accept Help

For some reason, women often find it hard to request for help. They feel that they should do it all themselves. But at the same time, they expect their family to notice and offer help—without them asking. While that may or may not happen, asking can leave women pleasantly surprised. But they must remember to be appreciative of any help given and not to be too picky about how the work is done.

5.   Take Care of Yourself

A woman must include herself in the list of people she cares about. It is vital to prioritize her well-being, and she must make it a priority to eat a healthy diet, exercise regularly and find some time for relaxation. Only optimal physical and mental health will help in handling stress.

Mphasis is an equal opportunity workplace, where women are encouraged to pursue rewarding career paths with the aid of several initiatives that help them achieve a holistic work-life balance.
