Davinder Singh Brar

Chairman

Davinder Singh Brar, Director, joined the Board of Mphasis in April 2004. He is currently a promoter of GVK Biosciences Private Limited, Inogent Laboratories Private Limited, and Davix Management Services Private Limited. In addition, Davinder is also on the board of Maruti Suzuki India Limited, Wockhardt Limited, and Mountain Trail Foods (India) Private Limited. He is a member of the Advisory Board of the USA-India Chamber of Commerce (USAIC) and member of the Consultative Group on Exports of Pharmaceutical Products, under the chairmanship of Honorable Minister of Commerce and Industry and Textiles, Government of India. Davinder was also the Director of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) during 2000-2007.

He started his career with Associated Cement Companies (ACC) and later joined Ranbaxy Laboratories Limited, where he rose to the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Managing Director.

He has a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology, Patiala; and a master’s degree in management from Faculty of Management Studies from the University of Delhi (gold medalist - 1974).

Nitin Rakesh

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Whole-time Director

A distinguished leader in the IT services industry, Nitin Rakesh joined Mphasis as its Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Director in January 2017.

Prior to joining Mphasis, Nitin was the CEO and President of Syntel (a NASDAQ listed IT services company). He has a proven track record of delivering profitable growth at industry-leading operating margins. Before he was appointed as the CEO of Mphasis, he served as President, Americas for Syntel, where he headed business development and North American operations.

Nitin has deep domain expertise in banking, financial services, and insurance verticals. He has strong customer-orientation, large deal experience, and a track record of delivering transformative digital solutions. He also has an entrepreneurial mindset, focusing on launching innovative new service offerings in automation and beyond.

Nitin served at Syntel in various capacities (most recently as the CEO) between 2012 and 2016 and also before that from 2002 to 2008.

From 2008 to 2012, he served as the CEO and Managing Director of Motilal Oswal Asset Management Company. At the Crisil - S&P Mutual Fund Awards in 2010, the company won the ‘Most Innovative Mutual Fund, India’ and at the 2011 Exchange Traded Fund (ETF) Awards in New York, the company was named ‘Most Innovative ETF, Asia Pacific.’

He has also worked with The Chatterjee Group (TCG Group), a transnational private equity and investments firm as the Head of Banking and Financial Services and Sales for TCG Software Services, between 1999 to 2002.

Earlier in his career, Nitin worked for Unit Trust of India, setting up offshore mutual funds and secondary market research cell, product development, and risk management divisions.

American Business Awards 2018 recognized Nitin as ‘Executive of the Year - Computer Services,’ felicitating him with Gold Stevie under the management award category.

Nitin holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science engineering from Delhi Institute of Technology, University of Delhi; and received his master’s degree in management from Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies, Mumbai. He is also an alumnus of Harvard Business School’s CEO Workshop.

N Kumar

Director

N Kumar joined the Board of Mphasis on February 15, 2013. He is the Vice Chairman of The Sanmar Group, a fourth-generation, family-owned, business conglomerate. The Group is a multinational US$ 1 billion conglomerate headquartered in Chennai, India; and has manufacturing facilities in India, United States, Mexico, and Egypt. It is engaged in three key business sectors—chemicals (including specialty chemicals), engineering (products and steel castings) and shipping.

Kumar is the Honorary Consul General of Greece in Chennai.

He is on the Board of various public companies and carries with him over four decades of experience in the spheres of technology, management, and finance. In addition, he is also the Chairman of National Accreditation Board for Certification Bodies, which is a constituent of Quality Council of India; and is also a member of the Board of Governors of Institute for Financial Management and Research.

As a spokesman of industry and trade, Kumar had been the President of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and participated in many apex bodies. He presently chairs the CII Institute of Quality, Bangalore.

Apart from this, Kumar has a wide range of public interests going beyond the confines of corporate management, in the areas of health, social welfare, education, and sports. One special area in which he is involved is the Madhuram Narayanan Center for Exceptional Children.

He has a bachelor’s degree in electronics engineering from Anna University, Chennai; and is a fellow member of the Indian National Academy of Engineering.

Amit Dixit

Director

Amit Dixit joined the Board of Mphasis in September 2016. He is a Senior Managing Director and Co-Head of Private Equity at Blackstone India. Since the time of joining Blackstone in 2007, Amit has been involved in various investments and investment opportunities in India and South Asia.

Apart from Mphasis, he currently serves as a Director of Intelenet Global Services, IBS Software Private Limited, S.H. Kelkar, Jagran Prakashan, Mid-day Infomedia, and Hindustan Power Projects. Previously, Dixit was a Principal at Warburg Pincus. He was also a Director of Emcure Pharmaceuticals, Igarashi Motors India, and Trans Maldivian Airways.

He has received a master’s degree in business administration (MBA) from Harvard Business School, a master’s in science (MS) in engineering from Stanford University, and a bachelor’s degree in technology (BTech) from Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai, where he was awarded the Director’s Silver Medal for graduating at the top of his program.

Ms. Jan Kathleen Hier

Director

Ms. Jan Kathleen Hier joined the Board of Mphasis in December 2015.  

Formerly, she was a partner with a start-up (Bicycle Financial – www.bicycylefinancial.com) and she was also the Executive Vice President at Charles Schwab responsible for centralized support services including Schwab Technology Services, Operational Services, Corporate Project Management, Operational Risk Management and Offshore Services.

At Schwab, Ms. Hier held several other positions, including, Chief Information Officer; Executive Vice President of Human Resources; Head of Electronic Brokerage Technology that developed schwab.com; and Head of Schwab Institutional Technology.  

Before joining Schwab in 1994, Ms. Hier served as a Vice President of engineering at Transaction Technology, Inc., a Citicorp subsidiary, where she was responsible for providing distributed technology to Citibank businesses worldwide. Previously, she was a telecommunications specialist at Bank of America.

As an economist with the Bureau of Labor Statistics, she was instrumental in the original development of a Producer Price Index for the telecommunications industry and was called on as an expert witness at the U.S. House of Representatives.  

Ms. Hier earned her Bachelor's degree in Economics and attended Post-Graduate studies at Syracuse University, New York, USA.

David Lawrence Johnson

Director

David Lawrence Johnson (Dave Johnson) joined the Board of Mphasis in September 2016.  He is a senior advisor to Blackstone, where he has led many of their private equity technology investments. David joined the firm in 2013 and is based in New York. He is currently also a Director of Cylance (cyber security), Pactera (IT services), Green Sky Labs (pharma), and Cloudreach (cloud advisory).

Before joining Blackstone, David was Senior Vice President of Strategy at Dell Corporation, where he was responsible for corporate strategy, corporate development, and acquisition integration. Prior to joining Dell, he also held a number of positions at IBM, including Vice President of Corporate Development, responsible for the company’s acquisitions, divestitures, minority investments, and acquisition integration.

David received a bachelor’s degree in English and a master’s degree in business administration (MBA) from Boston College.

Marshall Lux

Director

Marshall Lux joined the Board of Mphasis in August 2018. He has been a financial services consultant and practitioner for over 30 years now and has been on company boards or played an advisory role for various private equity companies across industries and geographies. Currently, he works with companies across consumer credit, wealth, insurance, healthcare, technology, and financial technology. Marshall has a broad network of C-suite executives, with whom he has worked with on some of their most important issues. He has also played an integral role in many of the largest private equity deals. In addition, he is a member of the Board of Governors of the Online Lending Policy Institute.

Beyond corporate work, Marshall has also worked on 35 pro bono assignments and has served on a number of not-for-profit boards, including the Harlem Children’s Zone, the New York Historical Society’s Chairman’s Council, the New York Tenement Museum, Junior Achievement, and Reading is Fundamental. He is also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.

Four years ago, Marshall decided to broaden his focus areas. He has since been a Senior Fellow at the Mossavar-Rahmani Center for Business and Government at the Harvard Kennedy School. He is also a Senior Advisor to The Committee on Capital Markets Regulation and a Senior Fellow to The Program on International Financial Systems, both at Harvard Law School. That’s not all, Marshall is also a Senior Fellow at Wharton and Georgetown.

As a thought leader, Marshall’s writings have concerned the unintended consequences of Dodd-Frank on financial services. He has written papers entitled ‘The State and Fate of Community Banking,’ ‘What’s Behind the Non-Bank Mortgage Boom,’ and ‘Out of Reach: Regressive Trends in Credit Card Access.’ All papers have been cited in the Financial Times, Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, among others. He has also released papers entitled ‘When Markets Quake: The Past, Present, and Future of Online Lending’ and ‘Hunting High and Low: The Decline of the Small IPO and What to Do About It.’

Apart from this, he is also a speaker and has spoken at the House of Small Business Committee, the Federal Reserve, and various universities and trade groups.

He began his career at McKinsey, where he served financial service firms across a variety of sub-sectors and functional areas. Marshall led McKinsey's and Boston Consulting Group's (BCG’s) private equity practice. He has extensive relationships across financial services and private equity (PE) Firms. After approximately 25 years, he left McKinsey to become the Chief Risk Officer for Chase (all consumer products globally) during the financial crisis. He then joined BCG, where he was a Senior Partner for five years, and in particular, helped build a private equity practice while serving financial institutions. For example, Marshall was BCG’s first Senior Partner and built the PE practice. Marshall continues to be an active advisor to BCG.

He attended the Woodrow Wilson School at Princeton University and graduated Summa Cum Laude. Marshall also attended Harvard Business School where he was a Baker and Ford Scholar (awarded to the number one student in each graduate school).

Paul James Upchurch

Director

Paul James Upchurch joined the Board of Mphasis in September 2016. He is also Chief Operating Officer, Europe, at Lombard International Assurance, based in Luxembourg; where he is restructuring the organization for profitable growth and closed a record €4 billion assets under administration in 2017 and achieved a more competitive operating expenditure run rate. At Lombard International Assurance, Paul is also focused on readying the Blackstone investment for its exit stage and creating a long term, sustainable, operating model.

Paul joined Lombard International Assurance from Blackstone, where he led the enterprise systems function within Blackstone’s portfolio operations group. At Blackstone, he worked with senior leadership to drive high performance outcomes through the effective implementation of enterprise systems and business operating models across over 50 portfolio companies. In addition, he has been a driving force behind business development strategies across the consulting firms owned by Blackstone. He has a unique blend of private equity, operating, and consulting expertise that enables him to pivot across commercial, operational, and technical needs of companies seamlessly.

Before joining Blackstone, Paul worked as Executive Vice President and was a member of the North America leadership team at Nielsen, previously owned by Blackstone. He also worked with The Cambridge Group, a strategy consulting firm owned by Nielsen, to drive demand strategies for clients. Paul led teams to elevate client relationships and tackle Nielsen clients’ most pressing business issues, including demand creation, pricing and trade optimization, innovation, and retail execution; by leveraging data, analytics, and client service platforms. Early on, Paul led the largest commercial portfolio in North America, overseeing hundreds of client relationships across consumer, financial services, and retail brokers.

Prior to that, Paul had a successful career for over 18 years in management consulting, serving as partner at Accenture and Diamond Management Consultants. He guided clients on a wide range of enterprise technology and operational improvements, serving as a leader of complex, multi-year, US$1 billion transformations; outsourcing as well as rapid-turn carve-outs and integrations.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in information and decision sciences from the University of Illinois, Chicago.

Amit Dalmia

Director

Amit Dalmia joined the Board of Mphasis in September 2016. He is also an Executive Director in the Corporate Private Equity group in Blackstone and is based in Mumbai. After joining Blackstone in 2010, he has primarily been involved in creating and driving value-added initiatives across Blackstone portfolio companies in India. Before joining Blackstone, Amit gained diverse operational experience at Hindustan Unilever India (HUL) in various management and business leadership roles ranging from finance and accounts to commercial and supply chain. He has undergone a management training program with the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad; and subsequently worked extensively on in-company training at Unilever. 

Amit is a chartered accountant (CA), company secretary (CS), and cost accountant (ICWA) with three gold medals for securing first ranks in the country.

He completed a bachelor’s degree in commerce (Hons.) from St. Xaviers' College, University of Kolkata, India.

Eric Winston

Executive Vice-President, General Counsel, and Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer

Eric Winston is responsible for Mphasis’ global legal and compliance function and policies. He has spent nearly twenty years guiding international, market-leading, public, and private equity-owned IT companies.

Prior to Mphasis, Eric served for two years as Vice President - Legal, at Syntel, Inc., an IT services company, where he was responsible for advising executive management on a wide range of matters including domestic and international, strategic and commercial transactions, litigation, mergers and acquisitions, employment, business development, corporate governance, and compliance.

From 2002 through 2015, Eric served as Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of INTTRA, Inc., the world’s largest electronic transactional platform for the ocean shipping industry. His responsibilities included functions such as worldwide legal, privacy, mergers and acquisitions, litigation, intellectual property, patent strategy, and compliance activities, as well as government and regulatory affairs. He also managed INTTRA's human resources department. Eric joined INTTRA in 2001 as Director of Business Planning and Projects and was appointed as General Counsel in 2002.

Prior to INTTRA, Eric served as Director of Business Development for Newark-based Net2Phone, Inc., a leader in delivering voice services over data networks. Before working with Net2Phone, he served as Director of Strategic Relations for Inlumen, Inc., a web-based application service provider and content aggregator for the financial services industry, in New York City.

From 1996 through 1999, Eric was in private practice in New York City, where he specialized in complex civil litigation matters. From 1989 through 1994, Eric served as an Assistant District Attorney for the Kings County District Attorney’s Office in Brooklyn, New York.

Eric received his Juris Doctorate at the Emory University School of Law and his bachelor of arts degree in economics from Vassar College.

Dinesh Venugopal

President – Mphasis Direct and Digital

As President and Member of the Executive Council, Dinesh Venugopal is the global head for direct-core business and digital across industry verticals.

With over 20 years of cross-functional leadership experience spanning strategy, technology innovation, mergers and acquisitions (M&A), and marketing; Dinesh has been instrumental in catalyzing Mphasis’ growth by delivering business value and delighting customers.

Under his leadership, Mphasis has transformed its solution and services portfolio that has enabled the direct-core business to grow faster than the industry. Also, Mphasis is now consistently ranked as #1 or #2 service provider by our top five, industry-leading clients.

In his previous role as the Global Head of Mphasis' Specialized Market Unit, Dinesh led the development of next-gen solutions in the areas of mobility, analytics, and business process outsourcing/knowledge process outsourcing (BPO/KPO). He also set up the Mphasis’ Corporate Development Office including the mergers and acquisitions team, and marketing and innovation incubation charter in the areas of payment solutions and product engineering services.

Before his assignment at Mphasis, he was the Head of Product Development at BMC Software for the Remedy ITSM suite of products. He was also Director of Engineering at Marimba Inc., a leading Silicon Valley start-up, where he led the development of award-winning, next-generation products in the niche fields of data center automation, desktop management, and mobile management.

Dinesh has a vast experience in leading global teams to enable offshoring of enterprise product development in India, Israel, Canada, and Ukraine, with proven expertise in amalgamating technology commercialization, global client relationships, marketing, and strategic planning.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in technology from College of Engineering, Thiruvananthapuram, India; and a master's degree in computer science from the University of Louisiana.

Elango R

President— DXC &HP— SBU

A member of the Executive Council at Mphasis, Elango R heads sales and delivery of all business lines in Hewlett Packard (HP) channel.

He is responsible for market-facing activities as well as delivery across the DXC and HP Channel, focusing on enabling customers to build strong business processes and enhancing the end-customer experience through digital transformation. Elango partners with business leaders in their transformation journey by strengthening business relationships and through his expertise in the space of technology and operations.

Previously, Elango was the Chief Human Resources Officer at Mphasis and defined the organization’s talent strategies and programs. He led a global team of human resource professionals responsible for attracting, developing, and retaining the best talent through world-class recruiting, learning and development, compensation and benefits, engagement, and retention practices.

As an additional portfolio, he also managed the Emerging Geographies Business Unit at Mphasis. Being a versatile leader, he has donned multiple hats in the past as the Head of Business Operations, Corporate Social Responsibility, Marketing, and Corporate Communications.

Before Mphasis, Elango served as Senior Vice President, Human Resources, for the offshore unit at Bank of America and has worked in senior positions at organizations like the UB Group, the Raheja Group, and Quality Inns (India) in the past.

Author of the best seller 'You Don't Need a Godfather', he is a well-known name in the speaking circuit, and he has participated in forums like Project Management Institute (PMI), National HRD Network (NHRD), and NASSCOM. He is a regular columnist for leading business and HR publications and shares his leadership and management views via Twitter @agastyasays.

Elango has completed an advanced management program from INSEAD.

Sundar Subramanian

President – Global Delivery

Sundar Subramanian is responsible for global delivery, starting with our direct, core business for FY18.

Sundar has in-depth global experience in the services industry with an outstanding track record in leading and growing small and large business units. In his career spanning over 27 years, he has spearheaded successful global delivery, consulting, operations, and people management functions.  

In his most recent role at Cognizant, where he spent over 14 years, Sundar was a member of the executive leadership team and steered the global delivery function for healthcare. In addition to managing product delivery to healthcare customers across all service lines, he played a significant role in Cognizant’s largest acquisition, in the healthcare product space–Trizetto. He also integrated the implementation and consulting services of Trizetto with Cognizant’s healthcare delivery organization and set up a product engineering group in India for product development. Before this, for seven years, he led the growth of the nascent communication vertical that services the telecom and cable industries. Under his leadership, this vertical grew significantly in North America, Europe, and Asia, opening newer markets.

Before Cognizant, he was with PricewaterhouseCoopers and IBM, managing Fortune 100 customers as a part of its Management Consulting Services, based in New Jersey.  Prior to that, he was with Citicorp Overseas Software, working for Citibank and its affiliates in the financial services industry.

Sundar holds a master’s degree in management from NJIT and a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Bangalore University.

Srikanth Karra

Chief Human Resource Officer

Srikanth Karra is an industry veteran and seasoned human resources (HR) officer with close to 30 years’ experience in business-focused, innovative, HR systems and processes. He has been instrumental in institutionalizing global benchmarks for large enterprises as well as startups. Over the years, Srikanth has strategized, spearheaded, and seamlessly executed numerous people initiatives. His functional experience spans resource strategy, manufacturing operations, industrial relations, HR technology implementation, and process excellence in multiple industries including manufacturing, information technology (IT/ITES), and telecom.

Srikanth started his career with ITC, where he worked for about 10 years across various geographies before moving to a Silicon Valley startup, Aztec Software, and then to General Electric Capital International Services (GECIS) as their HR Head. He was also the Global HR Head at Syntel Inc., and then the country Head HR for Hewlett-Packard (HP) India. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to invest and work with technology startups, which he passionately continues. He then took on the role of HR Director at Airtel and later as Head of HR Strategy and Culture for Syntel.

Srikanth holds a master’s degree in personnel management and industrial relations from Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) and a bachelor’s degree in general law from Mumbai University. He has also attended various executive programs with Asian Institute of Management (AIM) Manila, Wharton, GE Crotonville, and Harvard.

V Suryanarayanan

Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer

Surya is a Chartered Accountant with more than 30 years of experience and has provided strategic leadership to business teams in the areas of financial planning, accounting, taxation, cost optimization, legal and statutory compliance, and treasury.

As Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Mphasis, Surya is responsible for budgeting, forecasting, management information systems (MIS), pricing, direct and indirect tax for global operations, and investor relations.

He brings exceptional insight into systems and process improvements to achieve growth and profitability.

Before joining Mphasis through the acquisition of AIG Captive in 2009, Surya was Vice President and CFO at AIG Systems Captive of AIG Inc., where he was instrumental in setting up the offshore development center, including obtaining necessary statutory approvals, and chartering and implementing policies and processes.

Before AIG, he was the Vice President and CFO of Deutsche Software Captive of Deutsche Bank and General Manager and CFO at Ramco Systems in India.

In 2014, Surya was the recipient of the CFO India Award. He was recently recognized as one of India’s 50 Best CFOs 2017-18 by White Page International.

He is an associate member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. He holds a bachelor of science degree in mathematics from St. Xavier's College and graduated with honors from Bombay University in economics. He has also attended executive management programs in Institute for Financial Management and Research (IFMR) and Indian School of Business (ISB), Hyderabad.
