We are committed to bringing social change by applying the power of technology and disruptive solutions. We believe that technology can play a transformational role for positive outcomes in the areas of education, livelihood creation and equitable development and have undertaken several programs across these three focus areas.

INCLUSION

The/Nudge LifeSkills Foundation – IID

Mphasis entered into partnership with The/Nudge Foundation to support the Indian Institute of Development (IID) as a “Founder and Patron”, for over a period of 4 years, to run the programs under the Centre for Social Innovation – incubator, accelerator and Indian Administrative Fellowship (IAF).

The/Nudge LifeSkills Foundation is an Indian non-profit organization established in July 2015 in Bengaluru. The foundation's focus areas are poverty and unemployment in India.

Museum of Art and Photography

Mphasis and MAP entered into a 5 year partnership, with the objective to create a barrier free space so that the museum can be accessible for persons with disabilities and senior citizens. This includes infrastructure (accessible website, accessible signage, accessible technology), programs (education and outreach, exhibition), structural work as well as interiors under the expert guidance of Diversity and Equal Opportunity Center (DEOC).

The Museum of Art & Photography is an art museum based in Bangalore, India that will manage collections of Indian art, textiles, photography, craft, and design objects spanning from the 12th century to the present.

The/Nudge Centre for Social Innovation (N/Core)

Non-profits have a big role to play in improving the lives of communities at the bottom of pyramid. In line with the same, Mphasis partnered with N/Core to build scalable non-profit social venture for poverty alleviation. Mphasis – N/Core partnership has graduated 2 cohorts (N/2 in January 2019 and N/3 in December 2019) working in thematic areas such as environment, education, healthcare, sports, governance, agriculture etc.

Uber Access and Uber Assist

Mphasis-UberACCESS is Asia’s first launch of Uber in Bengaluru that offers wheelchair accessible cabs for solving commuting issues of mobility impaired, people with disability, senior citizens. Since its launch, UberAccess has completed 17000 + trips, 44,900+ rides and has served 4500 unique riders.

Mphasis-UberASSIST is designed for additional assistance for members of the senior and disability communities. Drivers are specifically trained to assist riders into the vehicles and can accommodate folding wheelchairs, walkers and scooters.

Uber is the world’s largest ridesharing company based in San Francisco and has operations in over 900 metropolitan areas worldwide. It is also a pioneer in the development of self-driving cars.

National Centre for Promotion of Employment for Disabled People

The partnership with NCPEDP involves advocacy-based efforts to drive policy change and the effective implementation of existing policies for improving the cause of persons with disabilities. A second facet of the program involves NCPEDP-Mphasis Universal Design Awards, which are given away every year to those who have been doing exemplary work towards improving accessibility, spearheading the cause of accessibility and inclusion. The program has been very successful and has won the prestigious Zero Project Awards at UN, Vienna in 2019.

NCPEDP is a cross-disability, non-profit organization, working as an interface between the Government, Industry, International Agencies, and the Voluntary Sector towards empowerment of persons with disabilities.

Ashoka Innovators for the Public

Mphasis, in partnership with Ashoka Foundation, aims to identify and support promising young changemakers who are involved in high impact work in local communities, to foster their ideas and initiatives towards achieving the ‘Everyone A Changemaker’ world. This partnership is focused on identifying 50 Young Changemakers across India as part of the campaign ‘Lead Young’, which spreads awareness about the changemaker framework among 200,000 youth, parents, teachers, school leaders and other stakeholders.

Ashoka is an international organization that promotes social entrepreneurship by affiliating individual social entrepreneurs into the Ashoka organization.

Mphasis Research Chair on Digital Accessibility @ IIMB

Mphasis has partnered with Indian Institute of Management Bengaluru to set up the Research Chair on Digital Accessibility and Inclusion. The proposed chair intends to create thought leadership by leveraging research in inclusion through accessibility, and aid careers of persons with disabilities by collating, systematizing and disseminating global best practices in the area of accessibility (organizational environment, services and products).

Founded in 1973, Indian Institute of Management Bangalore is a public business school and Institute of National Importance located in Bangalore, India.

Foundation for Innovation and Social Entrepreneurship (Social Alpha)

Mphasis partnered with BIRAC and Social Alpha to support the curation, design and implementation of ‘BIRAC-Social Alpha Quest for Assistive Technologies – supported by Mphasis', a search for start-ups in the Assistive Technology sector to support innovations focused on enabling and empowering solutions for persons with disabilities (PwDs). The Quest identified and selected 14 innovations that enhance their learning, working and independent living.

Social Alpha support entrepreneurs and innovators who are on a ‘mission to create social, economic and environmental impact’ and support them through their ‘lab to market’ journey, as they create compelling solutions to fight poverty and address India’s intractable developmental challenges.

LIVELIHOOD

The/Nudge LifeSkills Foundation - Future Perfect

Mphasis entered into partnership with The/Nudge Foundation to train 3780 women students, improving their employability by building proficiency in English and life skills. The program imparts 480 hours teaching English and latest life skills to students, delivered over 5 months through activities such as mock interviews, extempore and debates. By the end of the program, students are expected to be confident in English, in interviews and the workplace, thus improving their employability.

EDUCATION

Mphasis Laboratory for Machine Learning and Computational Thinking at Ashoka University

Mphasis has partnered with Ashoka University to set up a laboratory for machine learning and computational thinking. The objective is to apply ML and design thinking to produce world-class papers and compelling proof of concepts for systems/prototypes with a potential for large societal impact. The laboratory is the setting for cutting edge research and a novel educational initiative that is focused on bringing thoroughly researched, pedagogy-based learning modules to Indian students. The laboratory aims to translate research activity into educational modules focusing on the construction of entire systems, that allow students to understand and experientially recreate the project. This approach to education is aimed at creating a more engaging and widely accessible mode of learning.

Plaksha University

To create greater impact in the field of education, Mphasis has partnered with Reimaging Higher Education Foundation (RHEF) for a period of 5 years, to set up Plaksha University, Punjab’s second private University. This world class University is expected to be functional in 2021, and will have tie-ups with reputed international institutes such as UC Berkley, Purdue, Stanford. As one of its founding members, Mphasis is supporting to build accessible and inclusive infrastructure, research facilities and Labs in areas of AI & machine learning.

Plaksha is an upcoming private university located in Mohali, Punjab, India. It is being set up by a group of over 60 business leaders and technology entrepreneurs. It is a corporate-funded technical university, which is being established under the Punjab State Private Universities Policy of 2010.

IIITB Center of Excellence (CoE) for Cognitive Computing

Mphasis entered into partnership with International Institute of Technology Bangalore (IIITB) to set up first of its kind Center of Excellence (CoE), for cognitive computing, for a period of 3 years. The aim is to leverage cognitive computing technology to solve problems related to education, enterprise and accessibility. Technology has the potential to enable disruptive solution in accessibility for PwDs, a key focus area of the CoE. The Center will develop algorithms to enable real-time synthesis of Indian language, helping the deaf community to communicate more effectively.

Akanksha Foundation

In line with its CSR strategy of improving learning outcomes among children, Mphasis has partnered with Akanksha Foundation for a period of 2 years. The aim is to provide high quality education to children from low-income communities, enabling them to excel in core academics skills and assisting their socio-emotional development. It imparts critical thinking, creativity, communication skills among children and improvement in well – being and health of students, leading to reduction in absenteeism in schools.

The Akanksha Foundation is a non-profit organization with a mission to build the largest network of innovative schools that empowers children to maximize their potential and that influences systemic reform.

SOS Children's Village India

SOS Children's Villages of India are committed to the welfare of parentless and abandoned children, and to strengthen families and communities as a preventive measure in the fight against abandonment and social neglect. SOS India has worked with children, communities, disaster struck and disaster-prone areas, giving hope to weary communities and families. Mphasis supported 300 children through project ‘VIDYA’, a residential care model to support children through admission fee, school fee, transport, books, uniform and other expenses.

SOS Children's Villages India is a self-implementing childcare NGO in India. The organization provides humanitarian and developmental assistance to children in need and protects their interests and rights around the world.
