Restoration of Dommasandra Lake in Bengaluru

Another significant intervention undertaken by Mphasis towards water security is the restoration of Dommasandra Lake in Bengaluru. This multi-year project aims to improve water quality, enhance biodiversity, and increase community ownership. This initiative will help the population of Dommasandra Panchayat by increasing the groundwater level and benefit the flora, fauna and aquatic life.

The/Nudge LifeSkills Foundation - Future Perfect

Mphasis entered into partnership with The/Nudge Foundation to train 3780 women students, improving their employability by building proficiency in English and life skills. The program imparts 480 hours teaching English and latest life skills to students, delivered over 5 months through activities such as mock interviews, extempore and debates. By the end of the program, students are expected to be confident in English, in interviews and the workplace, thus improving their employability.

Plaksha University

To create greater impact in the field of education, Mphasis has partnered with Reimaging Higher Education Foundation (RHEF) for a period of 5 years, to set up Plaksha University, Punjab’s second private University. This world class University is expected to be functional in 2021 and will have tie-ups with reputed international institutes such as UC Berkley, Purdue, Stanford. As one of its founding members, Mphasis is supporting to build accessible and inclusive infrastructure, research facilities and Labs in areas of AI & machine learning.

Plaksha is an upcoming private university located in Mohali, Punjab, India. It is being set up by a group of over 60 business leaders and technology entrepreneurs. IIITB Center of Excellence (CoE) for Cognitive Computing

Mphasis entered into partnership with International Institute of Technology Bangalore (IIITB) to set up first of its kind Center of Excellence (CoE), for cognitive computing, for a period of 3 years. The aim is to leverage cognitive computing technology to solve problems related to education, enterprise and accessibility. Technology has the potential to enable disruptive solution in accessibility for PwDs, a key focus area of the CoE. The Center will develop algorithms to enable real-time synthesis of Indian language, helping the deaf community to communicate more effectively.

IIITB is a technical and research university in Bangalore, India and a registered not-for-profit society funded jointly by the Government of Karnataka and the IT industry under a public-private partnership model.

The/Nudge Centre for Social Innovation (N/Core)

Non-profits have a big role to play in improving the lives of communities at the bottom of pyramid. In line with the same, Mphasis partnered with N/Core to build scalable non-profit social venture for poverty alleviation. Mphasis – N/Core partnership has graduated 2 cohorts (N/2 in January 2019 and N/3 in December 2019) working in thematic areas such as environment, education, healthcare, sports, governance, agriculture etc.

Ashoka Innovators for the Public

Mphasis, in partnership with Ashoka Foundation, aims to identify and support promising young changemakers who are involved in high impact work in local communities, to foster their ideas and initiatives towards achieving the ‘Everyone A Changemaker’ world. This partnership is focused on identifying 50 Young Changemakers across India as part of the campaign ‘Lead Young’, which spreads awareness about the changemaker framework among 200,000 youth, parents, teachers, school leaders and other stakeholders.

Ashoka is an international organization that promotes social entrepreneurship by affiliating individual social entrepreneurs into the Ashoka organization.

Mphasis Research Chair on Digital Accessibility @ IIMB

Mphasis has partnered with Indian Institute of Management Bengaluru to set up the Research Chair on Digital Accessibility and Inclusion. The proposed chair intends to create thought leadership by leveraging research in inclusion through accessibility, and aid careers of persons with disabilities by collating, systematizing and disseminating global best practices in the area of accessibility (organizational environment, services and products).

Foundation for Innovation and Social Entrepreneurship (Social Alpha)

Mphasis partnered with BIRAC and Social Alpha to support the curation, design and implementation of ‘BIRAC-Social Alpha Quest for Assistive Technologies – supported by Mphasis', a search for start-ups in the Assistive Technology sector to support innovations focused on enabling and empowering solutions for persons with disabilities (PwDs). The Quest identified and selected 14 innovations that enhance their learning, working and independent living.

Social Alpha support entrepreneurs and innovators who are on a ‘mission to create social, economic and environmental impact’ and support them through their ‘lab to market’ journey, as they create compelling solutions to fight poverty and address India’s intractable developmental challenges.

Arivu – Disha

Arivu is an innovative learning program which was conceptualized and then implemented by Headstreams with support from Mphasis in 2015, to address the key challenges that exist in the state of education. The program uses play-based teaching methods to improve learning outcomes in government schools. Mphasis has supported Headstreams over a period of 4 years, impacting 6000 students in Karnataka.

Headstreams is a non-profit organization working since 2008 to bring about positive change in society by promoting free play, open learning, and sustainable livelihoods.

Diya Ghar

Diya Ghar is a Montessori based pre-school center for children of migrant laborers in Bengaluru. Mphasis in partnership with Diya Ghar, supported pre-primary education of children from lower socio-economic group, especially from often neglected ‘migrant laborer community status’ and increased awareness among parents on the importance of education, health and hygiene and child sexual abuse. The partnership was for a period of 1 year.

For the last four years, Diya Ghar has been changing the lives of the migrant community in Bangalore by providing pre-school education for children of laborers in a nurturing environment.

Katalyst: Winds of Change

Mphasis partnered with Katalyst for a period of 3 years to prepare young women for leadership roles through pursuit of professional education. We supported 45 young women from low-income families, pursuing professional education through various development intervention such as skill enhancement, mentor support and exposure. The students are also exposed to various role models in the corporate world through internships and annual conclave of women leaders from various walks of life.

Katalyst prepares young women for leadership roles, thereby creating a wider talent pool for India and helping bridge the gender divide.

Digital Empowerment Foundation

Musiri is predominantly a cluster of weavers from low-income families and weave cotton sarees or i dhotis. Musiri is a project initiated by Digital Empowerment Foundation (DEF) in partnership with Mphasis, to digitally empower the weaver community of the region to bring them out of poverty to lead them towards better livelihood opportunities. Mphasis has supported DEF over a period of 4 years, and the initiative has positively impacted and improved the economic prospects of more than 7000 handloom weavers in Musiri, Trichy.

The/Nudge Gurukul

Mphasis-Nudge Gurukul is a 100-day residential program in life management, designed to provide 360 degree learning and support experience for underprivileged young women and men in the age group of 18-25. It also places them in jobs in an urban setting along with a life-long support system. The program is aimed at empowering youth with employable skills for sustainable absorption into beauty, data entry and driving sector, in addition to training in financial and digital literacy. So far, in the last 3 years, the program has trained about 600 students from under-privileged background in Bengaluru, Karnataka.

United Way Bengaluru

Mphasis has collaborated with United Way of Bengaluru to revive the Mahadevapura Lake, by setting up a Sewage Treatment Plant with a capacity to treat 1 million liters of sewage per day. Additionally, the partnership aimed at developing a sustainable model of rejuvenation that will involve increased local participation through community activation and corporate volunteering. These efforts eventually improved local biodiversity, increased community ownership through volunteering and reduced level of harmful effluents and pollutants.
