LEADING US AND CANADIAN MONEY TRANSFER COMPANY SUCCESSFULLY REDUCES COST

Know More

CLIENT

The client is a leading US and Canadian money transfer company. Its daily operations were driven by mainframe applications that were unable to achieve expected levels of performance.

BUSINESS CHALLENGE

The client wished to exceed current performance levels and adopt a minimum risk approach for moving applications off the mainframe, to the mid-range platform. It also wanted to reduce costs by moving three, critical mainframe applications to mid-range platform on Windows and Unix. In order to achieve this, our team at Mphasis, had to move three mission-critical mainframe applications, convert data from EBCDIC to ASCII , integrate utilities, and migrate go-live data.

SOLUTION

Our team at Mphasis devised a two-phase approach to the mainframe re-host solution as follows:

  • • Phase 1: Assessment and proof of concept (POC)
    • Defined scope in terms of number of code components and defining strategies for migrating code and data and testing and outlining the target infrastructure
    • Created a proof of concept (POC) to prove the performance of identified critical batch process in a mid-range environment

  • • Phase 2: Re-host
    • Adopted the strategies defined in Phase 0 and used a milestone-based approach, guided by business criticality of jobs
    • Determined the capacity requirements and built the hardware and software environment
    • Migrated code and data to the new environment
    • Performed rigorous testing
    • Demonstrated applications running on a mid-range platform

BENEFITS

The assessment and POC phase proved the business case for re-hosting and built client confidence, along with the following benefits:

• Achieved performance expectation in the target mid-range environment for a critical batch process

• Defined strategies for migrating code, data, third-party components, utilities, and testing

• Outlined the target infrastructure

• Accomplished code, data migration, and system testing milestones of the re-host engagement

• Reduced cost by moving critical mainframe applications to mid-range platform
