REVERSE ENGINEERED 35 MILLION SLOC THROUGH ENTERPRISE ANALYZER

CLIENT

The client is a leading US telecom company that uses mainframe applications. These legacy applications were built using complex code and lacked reusability. However, if the client had to meet market demands, it needed to re-design its mainframes for future use.

CHALLENGES

The client reached out to Mphasis to help with reverse engineering 35 million source lines of code (SLOC) for their mainframe application. All mainframe applications used in the five zones of operation were within the scope of the engagement.

SOLUTION

In order to achieve the client’s business goals, a critical mainframe application maintained by Mphasis was assessed using Microfocus Enterprise Analyzer and Business Rule Manager. We enabled the client to:

  • Define its application boundary, discover active application component elements and their relationships.
  • Identify application complexity and data usage.
  • Standardize comprehensive and robust documentation that was aligned for forward engineering.

BENEFITS

Our solution demonstrated the following benefits:

Defined the boundary of the legacy application system.

Identified obsolete programs and components, both functionally ad technically.

Preserved business value of legacy assets and retained intellectual capital.

Isolated business knowledge (business logic and business rules) for reuse.

Used output for forward engineering by the internal team.
