Enterprise Data Warehouse Modernization and Migration for a North American Based Airline

THE CLIENT

A North American–based Airline.

Business Objectives

The client wanted to modernize and migrate their Enterprise Data Warehouse to AWS to enhance operational excellence, support self‑service analytics, and prepare for future growth under their Airlines Next strategy. The new Data Hub’s key objectives would also include:

  • Improved customer experience
  • Advanced real-time analytics
  • Optimized data flow
  • Resilience & high availability
  • Dashboard monitoring
  • Framework for recovery & availability testing

THE SOLUTION

Mphasis implemented a secure, scalable, cloud native architecture on AWS to modernize the client’s data, analytics, and application ecosystem. The new data hub would make curated enterprise data more accessible, support advanced analytics, and accelerate delivery of reusable data components. The solution approach included:

  • Data Ingestion & Processing: Real time and batch data were ingested using Kinesis, MSK, Lambda, and Step Functions, with data stored and curated in an Amazon S3 data lake. Glue and Athena enabled automated ETL and serverless query capabilities.
  • Analytics & Storage Modernization: Amazon Redshift and RDS provided high performance analytical and transactional data stores. EMR supported big data processing at scale.
  • AI/ML Enablement: Amazon SageMaker powered end to end machine learning workflows, including training, tuning, and deployment using data from the S3-based lake.
  • Application Modernization: Microservices were deployed on Amazon EKS, supported by EC2, ELB, and ElastiCache for high availability and low latency.
  • Security & Governance: A robust security framework leveraged CloudTrail, GuardDuty, KMS, and secure VPC networking. CloudWatch provided unified monitoring and observability.
  • High Availability & Global Reach: Route 53 ensured reliable DNS routing, while auto-scaling and multi AZ deployments enabled resilient operations.

  • AWS products & services used include - S3, RDS, Redshift, Glue, ElastiCache, EC2 Instances, CloudWatch, SageMaker, EMR, CloudTrail, GuardDuty, CloudWatch, EKS, KMS, VPC, Athena, Lambda, ELB, Step Functions, Kinesis, Route 53, MSK.
